Amoxicillin being an antibiotic in a group of drugs called penicillins fights bacteria in the body.

Clavulanate potassium is a form of clavulanic acid used to overcome resistance in bacteria that secrete beta-lactamase, thereby counteracting possible bacterial resistance to the amoxicillin.
